Education & Professional History
I was born in 1978 in London, Ontario, but spent most of my childhood years growing up in Mississauga. Since early childhood, I have shown an interest in art and drawing. In highschool, it was then I knew I wanted a career in art and design, where I would be able to express my creativity to the fullest.
I attended Sheridan College from 1997-1998 taking their art fundamentals program, and then Seneca College’s School of Communication Arts for their Illustration-Technical/Digital Media Arts program from 1998-2000. During my college years I explored and further improved my traditional art skills in drawing and design, and learned digital art and web design skills with Photoshop, 3D Studio Max, Illustrator, Corel, and Macromedia’s line of software.
After school, I worked at WiredKingdom Infomedia, a web design and web business solutions development company where I was fortunate enough to work on some major brands.
In May of 2003, I started my own freelance design company, Section 9 Designs, a name derived from Masamune Shirow’s popular manga and anime series, Ghost in the Shell (also see Section 9), and worked on a freelance/contract basis for companies such as Eaton Media, Bimm Communications Group, Customer DNA, E3 Consulting, Lex PR and Solo Team, doing various design and digital media related work, ranging from Website design and development, photoshop layouts, banner ad creation, illustrations and simple flash pieces.
My portfolio includes past work for companies such as Microsoft X-Box, McDonalds.ca, NTT/Verio, Tucows/Domain Direct, Bellworld, Sprint Canada, Fujifilm Canada, Moneris and Nortel.
Recently I went back to Seneca College, taking their webmaster content design postgraduate program, to upgrade my skills, and am now up-to-date with current standards in web accessibility and web development trends.
Other Useless Info
Well, what can I say? I’m a geek. I’m a fan of anime and manga, love to draw and sketch, though I haven’t been doing as much as I’d like to the past few years, I was part of the digital colouring team for the comic book CHISUJI, published by Antarctic Press, founder of the scanlation group Plum City and I’m on IRC a lot. If that doesn’t say geek, I don’t know what does.
Other things… hmm… a big fan of electronic music. House, techno, drum ‘n bass, breaks, disco, turntablism… and oldskool hip-hop. Also, recently became addicted to watching UFC fights, ever since they aired The Ultimate Fighter TV show on Spike TV.
